JOINTING OF POLYETHYLENE PIPES

Heat fusion joining, properly done, is SAFE and SIMPLE

  • The necessary equipment uses normal electrical sources, usually from a standard generator.
  • The process involves cleaning the pipe, preparing the surface, heating with the designed apparatus, joining and cooling under restraint.

Heat fusion joining of PE pipe is EASY TO LEARN

  • Cosmoplast conducts training programmes for operators seeking to learn fusion jointing techniques.

  • New workers can be taught the basics and gain competence quickly.

  • PE jointing equipment is available from Cosmoplast for sale or rental.

  • Skilled fusion technicians of Cosmoplast are at your service for any assistance.

Heat fusion joining is RELIABLE

  • Fusion joining of PE pipe has been used for over 40 years in the distribution systems of natural gas utilities in North America, and has a remarkable safety record. In Europe, where PE pipe has been used since the early 1960s, it is often the predominant water pipe.

  • After the 1994 San Francisco and 1995 Kobe earthquakes, authorities were astonished at how heat-fused HDPE joints and pipes withstood the stresses created by the tremors and ground movements.

  • The heat-fused joint is stronger than the pipe itself and is a water pipe joining method that is absolutely leak proof.

  • The natural gas industry has used a simple visual joint bead verification method for over 40 years to approve joints. This process, combined with normal hydrostatic testing, has yielded an extraordinary record for both safety and efficiency.

    Butt Fusion

In butt fusion, pipes or fittings are prepared by planing the ends using a trimmer and then heating using a non-stick heater plate. When   molten,   the pipe or fitting ends are brought together and held under restraint until cooled thus forming a joint stronger than the original pipe structure.

    Electro-Fusion

Electro-fusion is a method of jointing PE pipes using fittings with integral heating elements which, when connected to an appropriate power supply, melts both pipe and fittings contact surfaces and then allows them to cool and resolidify.
